"Arctic Vortex"

Another week of the Artic Vortex has set in here in South Florida.  But isn’t it great to enjoy our sweaters and jackets more than one day this winter?

Actually our Ministry Leadership Team has been in Frankenmuth and Detroit MI this week for our annual leadership retreat. It has snowed every day. The high this week has been 14 so far and the lowest temps have been -5 degrees. They won't see 20’s here for another week at least. And that is for the high temperature. BRRRRRR! They have a Snow and Ice Sculpting competition going on this week. Amazing! (We spent 1 day in Detroit learning about Church Planting and how we can partner with the Churches in Detroit to see this City resurrected not just financially and socially but spiritually. Oasis will be part of this. We will share more during February during our “Love Cities, Love Pastors” emphasis.)

Why go to a place like this for a Leadership Retreat? Lots of reasons. The cold air blows the cobwebs and humidity out of our heads! A change of venue and place gives fresh eyes and fewer distractions. Nothing is more important for all of us than to unplug from a daily routine. Many people ask how in the world Oasis does what it does? How do we do so much with so little resources? How do you and the leadership stay so motivated and passionate about the Mission? Many Pastors and Staff contact us as they did again this year and want to know what we do and how do we do it. I believe this time away of evaluating the past year and brainstorming and planning for the future is a big reason God has done such a miraculous work in our young church. There are so many benefits that I could write a book and so I'll stop but I just wanted to give you a peek at what our Leadership team is doing this week.

As I type this letter our team is right now dreaming and beginning to plan Christmas at the Oasis for 2014. They are split up in teams and dreaming of how we can better love and share the Christmas Love next Christmas. BTW, we are doing this at Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, the Largest Christmas store in the World here in Frankenmuth, MI. Can you imagine planning for Christmas in a store that is encompassed in 27 acres, 5 ½ Football fields and a ¼ Million Feet of Christmas under one roof?

RAZE” continues this weekend. I hope you will make sure you are here for this powerful conclusion to the New Year Message Series. If you missed week 1 and 2 please check them out here on our visitoasis.org site.

God bless you and have a great week. See you this weekend. Can’t wait to get home and thaw out!

I love you Oasis,

Guy Melton

P.S. “Love Cities, Love Pastors” is going to be our February emphasis. It might be the BIGGEST month since 1997 when we decided to build the Auditorium (Pines) during our “Build by 2000” campaign. Prayer is going to be the theme of each week in our services. Hundreds of us will be reading “The Circle Maker” by Mark Batterson. This book is going to be offered at a special discounted rate of $10 this weekend while they last. ONE PER FAMILY. This has been the most influential book for our staff I think in all our history. The book won’t change your life but the principles in it can if you will live them out. I already have our first message written and can't wait to bring it February 1-2.  (You can only pick up the book this weekend before or after the services in our lobbies at both campuses. We only have a limited quantity.)
