Oasis Church in North Miami

Several months of prayer and planning came together in the final week of August when Oasis Church voted to accept the request from First Baptist Church of North Miami to merge and become a single church.
The story is still unfolding. The beginning, at least for Oasis Church, came when Bob Goodwin, a founding Oasis Church member, approached Pastor Guy about FBC N. Miami.
Bob works with Gulfstream Baptist Association. He had been consulting with FBC N. Miami during and after the departure of their last pastor. Bob knew there were many ways in which the churches were compatible. The cultural diversity among the church bodies, their common Baptist heritage, and a passion to share the Gospel were but a few.
After meeting with Bob, Pastor Guy began a process of prayer and meets with the lay leaders at FBC N. Miami, our pastors, and our Church Council. Though a merger was not a certainty, help for this sister church was a natural reaction. 7 of our teachers and pastors served by teaching in N. Miami over the summer. We sent musicians and took an offering for this church.
During those summer months the details came together for a merger. We are now beginning a very deliberate process of uniting these two churches into one. The work is just beginning, but God has already demonstrated His providence and His will in preparing the leadership of each church. The missional mindset and humility of both groups has made this merger possible.
What does the merger mean?
It means we will carry forward an 80 year mission to reach the city of N. Miami with the Gospel!
It means that in 2008 we will re-birth this ministry under the name Oasis Church, North Miami!
It means the people of our Pembroke Pines and Hollywood Campuses will be challenged to pray, serve, give, and celebrate as we work together with the people of that church to revitalize their campus and re-introduce them to their community.
It means we will be one church in 2 counties in 3 locations 7 days per week with 12 worship gatherings!
It means we are following God’s lead as we move towards the vision he gave our pastors and lay leaders to become a single, healthy, growing church blanketing the tri-country region meeting in multiple locations at multiple times.
It means we have a new venue and a new community in which to live out our mission to Be and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ.
Here’s a map to FBC N. Miami soon to be Oasis Church, North Miami. Worship is at 11:00 am.

Guy and Kevin, What a trully wonderful undertakening. God is truly with this church and all that it is doing in his name. From the many baptized in one day and now to take on a sister church, how awesome in deed. I have been blessed and saved by this ministry and know many, many others will be as well.
