On June 26, 2010 the new Oasis Church Miami church plant had our first outreach. It was an Urban Talent Competition called “Battle Ground Miami” (www.battlegroundmiami.com).
We really want to start building bridges of trust to the youth and young adults in the community, so that we can share Christ and help nurture the new believers into Christian maturity over the years.
The event was a success as a starting point. Apart from our 10 volunteers we counted about 63 new faces. The youth danced, sang, rapped, laughed and had a good time watching some short, but powerful Christian videos. At the end, I (Pastor Jack Hakimian) had the privilege of sharing the Gospel and we heard many voices praying a cry of repentance and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
After the outreach was done, we then fed the youth. The dinner prep and work was led by Jullisa Garcia a member of the church plant team that joined us from the Pines Campus. Her work behind the scenes to feed about a 100 mouths was incredible. The youth ended up fellowshipping and dancing outside under the stars and the beautiful Miami wind until 10 p.m.
This is the first of our Monthly Talent Competitions. We invite all to join us and help make it more beautiful then it already is by adding your presence and flavor to the mix.
