In July, Guy and I had the privilege of visiting Rudy and Lorraine Johnson who are missionaries in Pisac, Peru. What a blessing to see God work in the lives of two people willing and committed to the Peruvian people for 50 years.
As we arrived on a Saturday, they had opened up their mission to the community and it was so great to see kids playing on the
playground, in the field playing soccer and inside playing dominoes, foosball, ping pong, etc. They do this every Saturday and the people just walk in. They hold a story time after a while and teach about Jesus. This is an optional activity for them, but if they attended they received a ticket to free cotton candy afterwards. What fun it was to watch them line up to receive their cotton candy.
On Sunday, we drove to Cusco, where they have a church and we were privileged to hear Praise and Worship in Spanish and Rudy brought the message to the people. (Lorraine sat in the back with us and interpreted for us.) What a great experience.
A medical team from Chattanooga, TN was staying in their retreat center that week and we were able to witness their ministry firsthand. I was so amazed as the doctors, nurses, physician’s assistants, pharmacists, etc. that came and turned the dorm rooms into examination rooms and the kitchen into a pharmacy.
People from Pisac heard through the radio that there were doctors at the mission and they just started walking in and waited so patiently for free medical care and exams, as well as medications, if needed. While they sat and waited to be seen, the team showed the Jesus film, as well as videos on how to care for themselves, brush their teeth, etc. What an awesome project and I was so thankful to have been a witness to that.
Guy was also able to spend time with three of the national pastors who help Rudy and Lorraine in their work. That was a special time for them, as they’d been through some tough times in the ministry there.
As we prepared for this trip I just kept thinking about how great it was going be to go to Peru and witness the work there and then as we arrived heard Rudy share his heart and his burdens and realized that God had a work for Guy to do there that we hadn’t even known about or planned. God is amazing and He is truly everywhere, in every country, doing His work. Our vision is truly limited until we go and see that God’s work is so global!
I thank God for the privilege to go and witness His work in Peru. I will never be the same!
