"Single Mom" Community Group

Being a single mom of four can be very challenging. I have three girls, ages 16, 14 and seven and a 23-month-old boy. I feel blessed to have my kids, but overwhelmed at the same time.
I became a part of the Oasis family about two years ago and after attending my first Women’s Ministry breakfast, I realized I desperately needed to be connected to a community group. Someone once said, “If you do not belong to a community group you are an orphan”, and that’s exactly how I felt. We were not created to do life on our own. God wired us for relationships.
After I joined the single moms community group, I knew that’s where I belonged. We have an amazing leader; we all call her Lidi, short for Lidiette. She loves the Lord and has a heart for our physical and spiritual well being. As single moms, we are a family, we support each other, we laugh, cry and pray together and we have a ton of fun at church or on special outings.
Spiritually, I have grown so much since joining the single moms group especially after doing the Chip Ingram study, “The Romans 12 Christian”; living as an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ. It was an amazing series that drew us closer to the heart of who God wants us to be. I could never make it this far in my journey with the Lord without being plugged into a community group.
In “The Purpose Driven” devotional Rick Warren says, “You need a community of people who are saying to you: ‘We’ll be with you when you’re going through the tough times. We’re not going to let you get discouraged or depressed.’” Rick says “Community is God’s answer to defeat. Ecclesiastes 4:10 says, “If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him” (NIV). Remember: You can try, but you can’t live life well on your own. We all need other people – to walk with us, to work with us, and to watch out for us.”
Bottom line, the single mom’s community group is a blessing for me at this time as I live this chapter of my life.
