Special Guest Speakers at Surge

The 7NOW Thursday night service is very special. Two wonderful groups of people meet on this night; adults and teens. Both groups worship together. Then the adults (about 40-50 each night) meet in the community cafe for the message from last weekend while the youth stay in the auditorium. We had a special speaker at Surge recently. It was our very own senior pastor, Guy Melton. Yep! He started off a month of guest speakers at Surge and brought a message that’s very closely intertwined in our DNA. A message about the leadership and potential leadership that abounds in our teen ministry.
He spoke from 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22.
“Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.”
Well, I wasn’t going to write it all out, after all, you probably own a bible and could very well read it. But no, I don’t want you to lose a second or a beat in the beautiful rhythm of this message. I hope you were there; but if you weren’t, let me just say that Pastor Guy drew out the living water, explaining to us that with all the potential there is in our midst to find leaders, we, as followers of Christ, should have all these words written in our hearts to encourage one another, to live out these principles given to us through Paul as if Jesus were coming back today! He urged us to pray ALL the time and to get to know the word of God ourselves.
Sitting there in the audience, I could just hear him pausing and pronouncing every word carefully as if he wanted us to really grasp all the meaning and all the power of these words. Did we get it, Surge? Did we hear what God had to say to us through our senior pastor? I pray we do…
I actually asked a couple of teens to tell me what this message said to them and this is what they said:
“P. Guy: To me life is just a big question, but being here at this church helped me recognize what my life is for and the purpose. It’s awesome to know that I have a plan that has already been drawn for me. And your message tonight really spoke to me because of the fact that I can use my leadership skills so I can bring someone else to Christ to feel this amazing feeling just like me. Love always, Celeste Medina.”
“ P. Guy, thank you for explaining to me why and how to stay in God’s word. -Amber Cheas”
“Hey P. Guy! I am one of the students from Surge and wanted to thank you because you helped me realize what I need to do to get closer to the Lord! -Ariana Cheas”
We love you, Pastor Guy. Thanks for sharing your heart and lovingly encouraging us with your wisdom! You are awesome!!
Who’s coming next to Surge? Ben Windle, Mike Chalk and Jason Smith are lined up for this month. So, do homework fast and don’t miss out!
