SURGE Prom Alternative Update & Pictures!
73 days ago by Jenn Collins

This past Friday, our student ministry hosted our first Prom. It was a ton of fun and we had about 35 people join us on our cruise around the inter-coastal waterway through Fort Lauderdale. Our kids looked great and were on their best behavior. Tim and Brittany got us kicked off with simple dance instruction. The students got a great view of the amazing houses and then danced the night away. It is one of the most unique events I have ever done in student ministry. Why would we do a prom alternative? It comes down to three reasons:
1. We want to provide students with a safe and structured environment to enjoy the prom. As you know, public high school proms can be a bit sketchy. This can allow parents to relax and know who their teens are with and where they are.
2. We want to encourage our teens to have healthy dating relationships. By providing the outlet for our teens, they can enjoy a night out on a date in the proper way. This will provide accountability, group dating, other students who share the same values.
3. We want to prepare our students to be ready to handle social situations with class and dignity. This is a big part of being an adult. This is a way we can partner with parents to prepare our teens for adulthood.
We got a great response from parents and teens alike and I can’t wait til next year!
