The KONA Story

Our KONA Ministry at Oasis is really taking off! Over the past few months, many teens and adults have committed to join our team. The focus of KONA has switched from being a venue to directly support SURGE, to a way to raise money for missions and summer camp! We are excited about this new vision and direction and the opportunity to support our students in ways that will change their lives.
Last Thursday, John Adams (our KONA expert on staff) led our comprehensive volunteer training. We tightened down some things and improved in some areas. Another training is scheduled for this week, and we are planning on launching our new vision by the end of the month.
KONA began as a way to provide the SURGE Ministry with funds for various activities. Since the beginning of KONA two years ago, the vision has changed into something that is more specific. Because most of our volunteers are students, we wanted to find a way that they would directly benefit from the revenue. This summer, our youth group is planning a summer camp and a three-week missions trip. This provided a great opportunity for those interested to continue to serve or start to serve in KONA.
This teaches our students the importance of working skillfully and diligently toward a goal. We are very excited to see how God is going to bless KONA Ministries and the impact it will have one their lives!
