ROMANCE TIP #1: Write a Love Letter or Poem
Sometimes it’s easier to put thoughts of romance in a letter than to speak them aloud. If that’s how you feel, write a personal, deeply felt love letter that expresses your feelings of romance and affection for the other person.

ROMANCE TIP #2: Say “I Love You” Often
Not just on a trip or a special occasion but every day. No matter how busy you are, there’s always time to send an email or pick up a phone to say “I love you” if you’re not in one another’s presence. If you are fortunate enough to be together, stop what you’re doing once in a while, look your lover in the eye, smile, and tell him or her what’s in your heart. It doesn’t cost a thing, yet it’s the best way I know to keep romance alive.

ROMANCE TIP #3: Plan a Romantic Getaway
Sometimes simply planning and anticipating a trip will heighten feelings of romance. Set aside time to go over your calendars, determine when you can get away, and discuss what type of setting you consider best for romance.

ROMANCE TIP #4: Surprise Your Partner with a Small Gift
Whether it’s a scented candle, a bottle of massage lotion, or some bubble bath, your gift of romance doesn’t have to be expensive, just something that will please your mate. And if you want to turn up the heat even more, assemble an entire basket of romantic gifts.

ROMANCE TIP #5: Celebrate Your Anniversary
This is the big one: If you only do one romantic thing a year, it should be commemorating your anniversary. Holidays are for children, birthdays are for individuals, Valentine’s Day is for everyone with a sweetheart — but an anniversary is your special day as a couple. Whether it’s your first or fiftieth anniversary approaching, honor it creatively.

ROMANCE TIP #6: Put on Mood Music
Set the scene by playing your favorite sounds. What CDs or MP3s put you in the mood for romance? Create your own mix CD.

ROMANCE TIP #7: Hit the High Seas
Cruising has a lot to offer couples in search of lost romance: Intimate cabins, decks for moonlight strolls, on-board activities and entertainment, all kinds of food, interesting ports of call, and offshore excursions that bring out the adventurers in you.

ROMANCE TIP #8: Pursue Your Passion
What is it you loved to do most when you were single? Did you look forward to playing golf or tennis? Get a charge out of taking your dog on vacation with you? Savor the intimacy of a long car trip? Whatever you did before and enjoyed, do it again — and introduce your significant other to the joy of losing yourselves in an activity you adore.

ROMANCE TIP #10: Go to Your Happy Place
Conjuring a vision of a peaceful, placid setting is a technique that many people use to de-stress. Where is your happy place, and what does it look like? An endless beach? A cabin in the woods? A luxury hotel with a spa room for two? A tall mountaintop? Wherever it is, share the description of your “happy place” with your partner — and commit to getting there together this year.
