Christmas at the Oasis, First Timer's View

Wednesday night I was like a kid awash in a parade of lights!! I had decided I wanted to test out my new digital camera by finally visiting Oasis Church’s Christmas light display. The weather was clear and I had an urge to tap into my inner shutterbug for an evening. This was actually my first experience visiting Oasis. I actually work a few blocks down the road for another church and have always enjoyed driving by Oasis at Christmas time and catching a glance of all the beautiful light glitter but I had just never made the time to visit the display before until a new camera provided the motivation.
When I first drove through to look for shots the attendants were friendly and helpful. The light display was really wonderful. It was warming to see many in the community and I assume those that go to the church sponsor and participate in the setting up and running of such a great gift to the general public. I especially appreciated the Hall of Flags as a celebration of diversity within the Church. The forrest of trees and snowmen were also another highlight and it was charming to see little kids watching “Charlie Brown Christmas” projected up against the wall throughout the night. The lights themselves twinkled magically and mixed beautifully with the warm ambience of the church lighting. It was like a warm magical glow radiated outward in the clear dark night.
I suppose a few lucky visitors driving through got a kick out of watching me awkwardly laying out on the road with my tripod and camera pointing upward, but I had a great time challenging myself to get that special shot and capture the magical ambience of everything. Even more importantly it was especially edifying to know that another area church cares about it’s surrounding community that it is beautifully expressed by something magical and open to the public like the Oasis Christmas light display. I look forward to visiting again!!
