Have you ever wondered when the first Prayer in the Bible was spoken? I have, and now I am about to share it with you. It was in Genesis 3:8-19. It was when the man and woman had sinned and God confronted them. Admittedly, it was a God initiated prayer. But if you read this portion of the story they are talking back and forth and this is a great illustration of what Prayer really is. It is a conversation with God.
I would have imagined and envisioned the first prayer being like lightening. Powerful and memorable. Moving and beautiful. But it's not... Actually, most prayer is not something that is going to be penned in a famous novel or best-selling book. However, I bet it's penned and recorded in heaven.
Instead of focusing on the event and the monumental moment when Sin entered the world, I prefer to see this as a perfect example of what prayer is. Just talking to God. Having a conversation. The more we pray, the easier the conversation will flow.
BTW, some feel the first real prayer comes in the time of Worship in the next chapter, Genesis 4:26. You be the judge. Let's just remember to pray.
Thanks for being Pastoral Prayer Partners. As you know I cherish your prayers for me, our staff and for our church family who are on our weekly Prayer Digest.
God bless you and have a great week.
