Last week I shared the story of Jabez - a little known biblical character but one that gives us great insight into not only how we should pray but how much God wants to answer our prayers. As Prayer Partners we are praying for some BIG time things. We need and want to be heard and to pray in the spirit and heart of God.
I Chronicles 4:10, "Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request."
Last week we mentioned the first two components of his prayer:
One: Jabez prayed to God to bless him.
Two: ....was to ask God to......... "Enlarge my territory".
If you would like to go back and read last weeks Prayer letter on Jabez Part one you can go to www.guymelton.com.
Today we look at Jabez "Take 2".
#3 "Let your hand be on me........."
Which one among us does not want Gods hand on our life? Of course we do. Throughout Scripture we see God's hand on men and women. When it was they experienced the supernatural hand of God. Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem in 52 days. Joshua and the Walls falling in 7 Days. Moses and the parting of the Sea. The young virgin Mary who carried and delivered the son of God and on and on. Yeah but that is them and I am me! Oh really, look back to little known Jabez who was conceived in Pain. How about little known David and Joesph the slave and many more? God's hand can be on you and me and do the supernatural in and through us.
I am not talking about some type of carnival magic trick, or manipulating God into being our Fairy or celestial Santa Claus. I am talking about praying and trusting Him to do what He promises to do. Remember in vs 9 it says he was an "honorable" man! God does not just bless us without conditions and answer our prayers on a whim. As a Godly person, we seek only the heart of God.
#4....... God granted His request.
I love that God wants us to ask and as a loving parent that can't wait to bless us - He responds. There is more in this one verse than practically any other verse in the Bible on Prayer. WOW! How powerful. Again, God is not going to grant our request as our "Genie in the Bottle", we just have to rub it! No, we have to ask according to His will, be Honorable in His sight and ask in Faith. If it brings Glory to Him and it will not harm us or lead us away from Him he loves to answer.
This weekend we will be challenged to Pray "Bold Prayers". God loves Bold Prayers of His people. So Pray Bold Prayers. Join me in Boldly coming before God today and start praying Bold Jabez-size prayers.
