Struggling to Find Happiness
Everywhere you go, there are bright lights, smiling faces, and laughter. Everyone is going around saying, "Merry Christmas!" but for some, it's not so "merry." Even with so much light around, it's not enough to take away from the darkness some may feel inside.
Turning to friends and family for help can leave you feeling alone because no one truly understands what you're going through. They try their best to offer words of encouragement, but for anyone who deals with the struggle of depression or anxiety, you know that there's no easy solution.
God, our Comforter
Still, we're reminded of the fact that God can provide comfort to us in our trials (2 Corinthians 1:3) if we choose to focus on Him and not on our crisis. 2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us to "fix our eyes" on what is unseen, which includes God and His plans for our lives. Despite the promises from God that serve to move us forward, we regularly face opposition from the devil to keep us in a defeated and discouraged state.
The enemy wants us to focus on our doubts, our fears, and our insecurities, but God wants us to shift our perspective to His Word.
Turn to the Bible
At times, our problems can feel like mountains before us, but the God we serve is greater than any obstacle we may face. When life poses problems, let us not forget that the Word provides the answers. Sometimes the biggest mountain to face can be our thought life. Our minds can be so easily clouded with negativity that we can't differentiate the truth from the lies. But always keep this in mind:
The turning point begins when we learn to push away the lies about our past, present, and future, and instead, cling onto the truth, which is God's Word (John 17:17b).
With God as our guide, we can be brought from darkness into light (Ephesians 5:8). God's Word directs our path (Psalm 119:105) and leads us to the life that He intends for us to live. A life abundant in love, peace and hope (John 10:10b).
God, help me to draw near to You in times of trouble, for I know that You are right here with me in the midst of life's storms. When life knocks me to my knees, I am in the perfect position to cry out to You for peace, comfort, and hope. Even with this war taking place within my mind, I'm confident that, in You, I will rise up victorious.
